The name of the letter A is pronounced ay in English.

Written in context it can stand for several vowel sounds:

a (as in mat), ah,  aw,  and ay.
So it was in ancient Egypt 3400 years ago.

 A could be represented by        A /(aw) (awor
(awk).    and  (awk)
   was generally sounded  (ay)
but at the front of a verb it was sounded
(ah) and signaled  the imperative mood. The sound

(ä/ah) was represented by: (ah);      (ah);   (ah);

(ahr; ahl);
and was sounded when pronouncing many signs like (ahn)  and (awb).

My list of academic heresies is presented below.

Many corrections to current transliteration attempts were taken directly from the xenoglossy recorded on gramophone and in the book "Egyptian Miracle" in the 1930s by Frederic H. Wood. See this link for more information on the otherworldly source for all of the pronunciations on this page.
